A good haircut does it really matter? I recently got a bob, all though I have experimented a lot with my hair but making it this short was quite a drastic step for me. Before this, I never really gave haircuts much of a thought. I must admit though, I was surprised at how liberated and confident I felt after getting this haircut as the saying goes “When you look good you feel good” not that I looked bad before it’s just that a good haircut adds up to your confidence and your overall demeanour. Sadly most of us, especially in India, just take our hair for granted the heat and humidity also doesn’t really help, a quick ponytail or a bun is the max effort we are willing to invest on our hair.
My experiments with different styles
Good Hairstylists are they needed or are we just wasting good money?
It’s very important to find a good stylist and maintain a good rapport with them. Now the thought comes across has to how do I find a good stylist? It’s quite simple just look around, ask for recommendations from someone with a great haircut I am sure it’s not very difficult to find women with a great haircut. A good stylist will try and understand your lifestyle, your likes and dislikes, your profession how much time and money you are ready to invest in yourself and recommend a personalized haircut designed especially for you.
Which hairstyle will suit me the best?
First and foremost understand your face shape, just look at yourself in a mirror and trace your face shape on it. It’s as simple as that after that do your research, look for reference pictures Pinterest is a good place to start and accordingly go to your stylist for recommendations. Your face shape, your hair texture, length etc have a big role in deciding which haircut will suit you the best.
Now that I have got a Haircut how do I maintain it?
Invest in a good hair dryer. Most of us are of the mindset that if I can get a hairdryer for a few bucks then why should I spend thousands. It’s always a good idea to invest in good quality hairdryer preferably a salon quality it might cost you a few bucks more but it still works out cheaper in the long run as not only does it save you on your spendings on a good blowout at a salon every few days, a good hairdryer will last you for years plus it has a hot and cold attachment which helps in giving that right finish and shine to your hair. Youtube is an effective medium to learn on to how to style your hair using hair tools depending on your style and the look you can choose on which hair tools best suits you get plenty of different hair tools hot rollers, tongs, irons etc.
I always prefer to use a heat protectant before I use these styling tools, as this helps in protecting my hair from heat damage. Lastly depending on your haircut and style you need to visit a salon once every 12 weeks for a trim this is very important otherwise no matter how much you take pains in your overall hair maintenance, hair does have a tendency to look dull and shapeless especially towards the ends.
Mistakes women make when choosing a hairstyle
Many women make the mistake of just blindly going for a haircut because it looks good on someone else “One-size-fits-all” haircut sadly hasn’t been invented yet.
Not choosing your hairstyle as per your lifestyle if you are in a profession that demands to tie up your hair it doesn’t make sense to go for a bob instead a longer hairdo will be much better as you can experiment with different styles.
Keeping your hair length too long, I feel anything below your rib cage just ends up making you look old and dowdy. If you like long hair go for it, just make sure the style makes you look dynamic and flattering with plenty of layers.
Having the same hairstyle for years, just because a certain style looked good on you when you went to college doesn’t mean it will look good on you 10 years down the line. Over the years everyone evolves as a person a good haircut should reflect your current persona having the same hairdo just makes you so predictable which is not a bad thing but definitely boring.
Lastly experimenting with hair, I think one must experiment go for long, short, pixie, bob bangs the choices are plenty but remember to do your research don’t just go on a whim and make a drastic change once you cut your hair you definitely will have to live with it for a very long time.
